Bamboo Plantation and Factory visit

Earlier this month, we were invited to visit one of our trusted bamboo partners to oversee their latest harvest and gain a deeper insight to the sustainable benefits of this material throughout the production process, from forest plantation through to finished product.

Self-regeneration and rapid growth rate of bamboo are two of the materials standout properties, which were evident at the plantation. Once harvested, there is no requirement for replanting as the growth process naturally restarts from the remaining root left behind, with certain species of bamboo growing up to three feet in a single day!

As the world clambers for positive impact on the environment, it was clear to see the eco-conscious mindset of the factory when viewing the policies being implemented. One example being their determination to achieve zero-wastage from excess material, which is repurposed into biofuel to power factory machinery.

The incredible strength and versatility of bamboo, represents a great opportunity for companies and consumers alike to harness natures resource to diversify away from typical consumer products. We were able to see the harvested crop being broken down into various forms and fibres, later used to produce a broad range of products from homeware through to clothing.

Not only is bamboo hugely beneficial to reducing carbon footprint within the manufacturing industry, but those same benefits carry through to end consumers thanks to its biodegradable nature – with compost disposal being a viable option for bamboo products, reducing landfill impact on the environment.

This visit provided us with a great opportunity to see how bamboo can be beneficial in so many more ways than first meet the eye, which will be valuable knowledge to take forwards in our future projects and supporting clients looking to take the next step in reducing their carbon footprint.
